2010 LINCOLN MKT AND 2010 LINCOLN MKZ EARN IIHS TOP SAFETY PICKS

TBD
Posted July. 10, 2010

Based on the latest test results, the 2010 Lincoln MKT (manufactured after March 2010) and Lincoln MKZ (manufactured after April 2010) have received Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Picks.

Each vehicle earned the highest rating of "good" in all categories, including a new test for roof strength. To measure roof strength, a metal plate is pushed against one corner of a vehicle's roof at a constant speed. The maximum force sustained by the roof before five inches of crush is compared to the vehicle's weight to find the strength-to-weight ratio. According to IIHS, this is a good assessment of vehicle structural protection in rollover crashes.

Vehicles with a rating of "good", have roofs that can withstand a force equal of at least four times the vehicle's weight, before reaching five inches of crush.

The Top Safety Pick Award recognizes the vehicles that earn the highest rating of good in front and side crash tests, a rollover test and rear crash protection, and offer electronic stability control. Electronic stability control is standard on the Lincoln MKT and MKZ.
